Michelle and Lindsey Knapp laughed when asked if they go to Starbucks often. The mother and daughter from California sipped iced teas in downtown Manhattan after an afternoon exploring the city.

“It’s my go-to,” Michelle Knapp, who works in medical claims, said. Her husband, PJ Chandler, stood nearby drinking a Frappuccino.
